Pupil Premium Strategy
The Pupil premium is allocated to schools to help to address underlying inequalities between disadvantaged children and their peers and ultimately reduce the attainment gap between them. The needs of disadvantaged children are mapped by senior leaders and their attainment and progress are carefully tracked to evaluate the impact of the pupil premium funding.
The Government believes that schools should decide how the Pupil Premium is allocated and spent, since it is felt that they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. At Gee Cross Holy Trinity, we work hard to ensure that our pupils benefit from this funding. Different pupils have different needs, regardless of why they are eligible for this funding and we aim to ensure support is created and utilised dependent upon what each student requires to achieve .You can view our Pupil Premium allocation to see how our funding has been used.
During the pandemic, leaders have maintained a high level of communication with families eligible for pupil premium funding, to ensure disadvantaged children continue to receive the support they need and are effectively safeguarded. During the first lockdown, disadvantaged pupils were invited to attend the key worker care provision which ran for the entire duration of lockdown. Children without access to remote learning were provided with tablet devices. Families were offered the option of a packed lunch each day or the equivalent value of supermarket vouchers. This support continued for the duration of the pandemic.
Research led by EEF and the Sutton Trust informs our decisions on how to allocate pupil premium funding to ensure maximum impact on our disadvantaged pupils.
The impact of our action plan will be reviewed by the end of July 2023.
Covid Catch Up Premium
The Covid Catch Up Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to help all pupils make up for lost teaching time. You can view our catch up premium statement below: Following the 2020 lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools have received an additional amount of money to provide catch-up support for those pupils that require it. At Gee Cross Holy Trinity School, in order to utilise this additional funding in the best possible way, we have considered closely the research and advice put forward by the EEF and used timely assessments of both children’s academic and personal development needs to inform our decisions.
Sports Premium
The Sports Premium is additional funding to improve the quality of sport and PE and sport, so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performances they are capable of. It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:
- The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles.
- The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
- Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
- Increased participation in competitive sport.
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but have the freedom to choose how they do this. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Funding is calculated by the number of primary aged pupils (ie between 5 and 11) as at the annual schools census in January.
